Callaway Golf Iron Shafts
Minimal changes in distance between various irons, why?
I just got back into golf after not playing for close to 10 yrs, I know the fundamentals of the game but am still very rough around the edges. For the record, I have Callaway X-20 irons with steel shafts, and I am a big enough guy where most graphite shafts are too sift/whippy for me to hit well.
I hit my 9 Iron about 100 yds in the air, but I am not seeing much of a change when I hit the lower irons. On average I am hitting my 5 iron about 25 yards farther than my 9, and theres something wrong with that. I'm getting around 150 yds max from my 5 iron.
Is there anything you might think could be the cause of this?
In this situation many things can cause this to happen. First, check your stance. The stance can actually drastically alter the shot you hit. Remember feet should be shoulder width apart, both should be even with each other, and pointed at the direction you'd like to hit the ball. Next, check your grip and the way your ands are holding the club. This is common sense because if your hands are placed on the club wrongly, it can alter the direction and distance. Lastly, be SURE to check this next one, when you swing through the ball, make sure that there is a full follow through. Also be sure to make sure when you hit the ball that you aren't striking the ground behind it first. Even the slightest miss of the ball can drastically change the distance. Good Luck
