Bob is 35 years old, and Susan is 30 years old. Find the ratio of his age to hers.

Solve.
The ratio of the distances a 7-iron and a 5-iron will drive a golf ball is 5 to 6. If a golfer averages 185 yd with a 7-iron, how far should he average with a 5-iron?

1) The ratio of ages is 35:30 which, just like a fraction, will simplify to 7:6

2) The distance can be solved by using fractions, then cross-mulitiply. The 5 iron will travel farther, so the 5-iron distance will be the larger number

5/6 = 185/x
x = 222
5 iron = 222 yards (I wish I could hit a 5-iron that far!)
