Golf Iron Hitting Distance
Does newer golf club hits further?
I am currently playing a set of MaxFli irons manufactured more than 10 years ago. It is made with graphite shaft. I am hitting about 170 with my 5 iron. Today I went down to the golf store and tested some new clubs; interestingly I am hitting my 5 irons about 200 yards and 6 irons about 190 yards into the simulator. When I asked the same question, the sales person told me that simulator might not be all that accurate due to extra rolling of the ball.
My question is: do newly manufactured clubs beat old clubs in the distance department?
Some do, some do not, it depends on the manufacturer and style of club. A new set of blade clubs isn't go to be much different than a set from 20 years ago because they're meant to be accurate, not far. But a set of game improvement clubs designed for golfers that don't get much distance may go a lot further than an older set. Like someone else said, a lot have manufacturers are using less loft than they used to, and graphite shafts are quite a bit better than they were 10 years ago, which could add some distance.
Anyway, don't trust the simulators. The distances they say probably have a 30 yard margin of error. If the only place you can test out the clubs is on a simulator, try them side by side with your old clubs. If you can find somewhere that sells clubs and has an actual range you can test them on, that would be much better.
