what does the d stand for in golf clubs?

i recently got a set of irons and aclub with the letter D followed the pitching wedge. what does the d stand for?
no you dont understand, the d is where the p for pitching wedge is or the 9 for 9 Iron. i dont think it is degree club. thats just silly
