Golf Irons Extended Length
why are graphite shafted golf clubs longer than steel shafted golf clubs?
I have steel shafted golf clubs that i needed to have extended by about an 1"- 1 1/2" . I went to buy a new set of clubs with graphite shafts and the "pro" at the retail store said that standard length graphite shafted irons come about an inch longer than steel shafted clubs from the factory, why is this ?? and should I add the extra 1" - 1 1/2 " to the graphite shafts seeing that I would just be increasing a standard length shaft or should I just keep them at factory length seeing that they are pretty close to the length of my steel irons? I still feel that I'm leaning over to far and bending my knees to much at the factory length but I don't want to over extend the shafts and ruin the clubs effectiveness. What do I do ?????
Graphite is longer than steel to keep the weight of the club the same. With all else being equal, if you went with "standard" graphite (without the added 1" or so that you need), the new clubs would feel lighter than your old set. If this is a help or a hindrance, I can't say... it depends on you and your swing.
The salesperson is just spouting information, without really applying it to your special circumstances. You'd probably be better off going elsewhere to be fit for clubs (a certified pro can also be more helpful if you're up in the air about steel or graphite) and maybe coming back with the specs to purchase the irons.

Tour Edge Forged CB Irons $799.95 Tour Edge Exotics Forged CB Iron Set The Exotics CB Xtreme forged irons are designed for the most discerning player to deliver the pure feel and workability of a blade with the forgiveness of a cavity back iron. The blade?s heel and toe perimeter-weighted cavity lowers the center of gravity and creates a large sweet spot for a soft, crisp feel from more points on the face. Forged from 1025-carbon steel, the iron?s soft forms are highlighted by dramatic lines and a classic shape. For maximum spin control and a pure feel, the Xtreme Forged?s face is entirely CNC milled to supply the largest grooves and face-roughness allowed by the USGA. The milled face and head not only deliver unprecedented spin control, they deliver a strikingly superior feel. For improved playabilty, the Exotics CB irons have a tour-beveled sole that promotes a cleaner ball striking by reducing turf interaction. The less turf interaction, the greater the ability players have to work the ball. Add the CB?s smaller forged face and near-zero offset and you?ve got a set of irons that will work just as hard as you do to improve your game Features: Tour Edge Exotics Forged CB Iron Set Heel toe paid weighting distributes weight for a larger sweet spot Forged 1025 carbon steel milled face delivers pure feel and control Tour-beveled sole and near-zero offset combine to maximize playability Specifications: Tour Edge Exotics Forged CB Iron Set Club Loft Lie Steel Length Offset 3 IRON 21? 60? 38.75 2.5mm 4 IRON 24? 61? 38.25 2.5mm 5 IRON 27? 62? 37.75 2.0mm 6 IRON 31? 62.5? 37.25 1.5mm 7 IRON 35? 63? 36.75 1.5mm 8 IRON 39? 63? 36.25 1.5mm 9 IRON 43? 63.5? 35.75 1.0mm PW 47? 64? 35.25 1.0mm AW 51? 64? 35.25 1.0mm SW 56? 64? 35.25 1.0mm Available in men's and women's right hand. PowerBilt Air Force One Hollow N7 Nitrogen Charged Irons $599.95 PowerBilt Air Force One Hollow N7 Nitrogen Charged Irons PowerBilt is turning doubters into believers. Skeptics scoffed last year when PowerBilt introduced the Air Forcce One: drivers, fairway woods and hybrids with club heads filled with nitrogen gas. They thought it was just another golf gimmick, until they tried it. Now, PowerBilt is introducing nitrogen-charged irons. And they are "ballistic" says Ross Kvvinge, president of PowerBilt. "There is a way to imp rove distance in irons, and we?ve figured it out," adds Kvinge. "By filling the iron head with nitrogen gas , we?ve been able to thin the face and create a much bigger sweet spot. The result is longer shots with more consistent spin rates no matter where you hit the ball on the face. So you not only get more distance, you get better accuracy, too." Kvinge points out that the technology goes beyond nitrogen. To maximize club-head speed, PowerBilt is using a proprietary Apollo steel shaft which weighs only 85 grams ? much lighter than a conventional steel shaft and slightly more than graphite. The shafts also have variable kick points. In the long irons thee kick point is low to promote higher trajectory. A mid kick point is used in the middle irons to promote both distance and accuracy, while the short irons utilize a high kick point for dead-on accuracy. In side-by-side testing against industry-leading irons, the Air Force One ? Air Foil consistently hit thee ball 10 yards farther with long-iron shots. "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn?t have believed it," states Kvinge. The lofts are standard for modern-day irons: #4-21?; #7-311?; PW-45?. The sole width transitions throughout the set so each club produces desired playability and easy launch angles. T he top line gets thinner ass the set moves toward thee short irons. And the offset is progressive.
