Golf Irons Steel Vs Graphite

steel vs graphite shafts?

I have been golfing for 8 years. I have taken lessons and spent countless hours at driving ranges. While the lessons have helped with my overall game, My driving still sucks! I have tried everything, Listened to everyone including the teacher. I am now thinking about putting my head on an old steel shaft from an old set i have. I hit my irons great and the graphite shaft on my driver... ( i tried 3) just doesnt seem to work. I get good distance, Between 250 and 275, But which way will it go? Left or right? Its a toss up. I can hit an iron straight as an arrow. Do you think this idea may help with my driver and straighten me out?

Well, graphite shafts are for people who have high swing speed, so if you have better than average (110+) you should go with graphite. If you have average or less, go with steel.

And also, I think switching shafts could help distance. If you have slow club speed, you are going to be out of control with a light club. It makes sense: slow+slow=lazy, short and hooked shot. If you have too heavy a club you will turn the face outside (well that's what I did until I switched to a Adila graphite shaft in my SQ driver) and it will go all over the place.

So try to find out your club speed, and use that when shopping for shafts.

Most irons today are designed to maximize one specific performance benefit - distance, forgiveness or feel, while sacrificing all other critical areas needed to hit more greens. To consistently hit it close and shoot lower scores, golfers need to be able to make shots from all areas of the golf course. That's why RAZR Technology is such a breakthrough. This technology will lead the industry into the next generation of iron design by delivering the distance and forgiveness of a wide sole iron while retaining the playability and turf interaction advantages of a thin sole iron. RAZR X Hybrids leverage CallawayÆs new Zero Roll Design to help golfers hit higher and longer shots, even those shots struck low on the face. These inertia-driven clubs are highly playable and offer hot ball speeds with either standard or Tour models, so golfers can dial in ideal performance.
