How to find TPV of a transformer? (turn per volt)?
How exactly do i find the tpv rating of a transformer when all i have is the iron itself? i have no clue what the input or output of it was. i know how to find turn per volt ratings of transformers but at the time i took this other transformer apart i didn't know of that stuff. so now all i have is the iron. what do i do??
You need a bobbin, and wind some wire.
Start with 100 turns; slowly apply some voltage with a variable source at the desired operating frequency.
Measure the current while doing this.
The current will rise as you increase the voltage. At some point the current will rise sharply.
This is the saturation region.
At this point back off about 10~15% and that should be a good TPV operating point.
From there calculate how much you need for the target voltage
If you have only 60 Hz and want the transformer to operate at 50 Hz (more saturation) then it is a bit trickier.
I would suggest reverse engineer a known good transformer and calculate from there.
But there is no black or white solution!
