Whats the difference between a driver and woods?

My parents got me a golf set of irons and woods but not a driver or a putter for that matter. they said that a driver is the same as the woods (it has a 1, 3 and 5) i dont think it is the same but i might be making it up so if there is a difference and what is it?

Your parents got you an "off the rack" golf set which usually consists of the 3 woods you mention above (1, 3, & 5) with the 1 wood being your driver.

Is it a "true" driver? No.

If you're lucky, you'll get 200 yards off that 1 wood that your parents got you. A driver is customized to you, and your swing for maximum distance.

With my 08 Big Bertha, I can get about 280 yards out of it and it's VERY forgiving on mis-hits.
