I swing a 5 iron at 88mph, can I calculate my driver swing speed with that information?
I'm looking for a new shaft for my driver, I have a fast tempo, and carry my 5 iron between 195-205 depending on my day, and conditions, etc... Also, can get it a little further when I really bare down on it... Any shaft recommendations for my driver would be appreciated. I don't hit the ball really high, normally, low to moderate height.
I don't know of any way to "calculate" your swing speed for your driver based on your 5 iron. It would #1 depend on the weight of your Iron Shaft and iron head and #2, how much force you use when swinging. I am 6'1" and weigh 180lbs. I am in decent shape and was just in Sports Authority yesterday and had my swing speed measured with a 7 iron on a Taylormade Burner Tour Iron (Tour having a heavier shaft...not sure on exact weight but it's about 10-15 grams heavier than the R7 standard shaft, both being steel) I was measured at 87MPH. I know for certain that my swing speed on my Taylormade Burner Tour Driver is 113MPH, with over 25 swings to count for an average. This may help you in determining your swing if it is similar to mine. I chose to go with a Fujitsu Reax 60 Stiff Flex shaft. It offers both good stiffness for high swingspeeds and lightness (graphite). That is my personal recommendation for a very good shaft for high speed swingers. And from personal experience, "really baring down on it" to try and grind out that extra couple yards is more likely to throw you en extra 20 yards out of play if you don't take your time and work up to it. I don't hit high myself so I know what you are talking about...go with a Reax 60...won't go wrong!
