What are the best irons to play in improving distance in golf ?

There are hundreds of sets in the golf shop. Do you just take a handful and try them at the driving range?

My handicap is at a 5 and I have just purchased a set of Taylormade Burner 2.0 irons and these are the longest and most accurate irons that I have ever owned and I have tried nearly every make and model out there.These irons are anywhere from 1 club ,in the long irons, to 1/2 club longer ,in the short irons.

Iron performance can best be measured, not only by the quality of shots produced by well-executed swings, but also by the quality of shots when less-than-ideal contact is made with the ball. From an engineering standpoint, the key to maximizing shot quality on off-center hits is weight distribution. Club designers learned that by placing more weight around the perimeter of the club they could reduce the amount that the club twists on off-center hits. The Key -- Golf Swing Trainer The right hand for right handed players can be a good golf friend or a swing destroying enemy. It all depends on how one uses it. Ben Hogan once commented that he wished he "had two right hands", providing of course his left one arrived first. That?s what the Key makes possible. It positions the right hand correctly, similarly to Hogan?s, thus helping provide the delayed hit for greater distance and more consistent accuracy. Correct right hand release, aided by the Key, also discourages both fat and thin shots with the irons. Even putting and chipping benefits as the right hand becomes correctly positioned. The Key is pre-bent to fit the wrist position of most hands. One of the Key?s distinct advantages, however, is that it is malleable and can be adjusted to fit any hand.
