Titleist Irons
I am buying a set of Titleist AP2 Irons and dont know what shaft to get?
I am in limbo between the Project X 5.5 and the 6.0 shaft. I hit my 9 Iron about 142 yds my 8 about 155 and my seven about 170-175. I hit the ball very high right now and would like a little bit low trajectory. any advice would be great. Thanks
I would say go to a professional clubfitter to get custom fit for your irons. Judging by your distances, you are probably strong enough for either shaft.
Consider the Project X Flighted shafts as they make your short irons fly lower and your longer irons a little higher. If the Flighted shafts are good in your short irons but too high in your long irons, you may be able to get the Flighted shafts in your short irons and the normal Project X shafts in your long irons.
Also, the "5.5" and "6.0" designation on the shaft does NOT refer to shaft weight. It refers to frequency, which is used to measure stiffness. Generally, a "6.0" frequency is stiff, so "5.5" is a little more flexible. It is very likely that the 6.0 shafts are heavier, but that is not what the numbers mean. Since the "6.0" shafts are stiffer and most likely heavier, they would tend to produce a lower ball flight. Again, I think the best thing to do is get custom fit for your irons. You may end up finding that a completely different shaft is the best one for you.
P.S. You might want to wait to buy the current AP2 irons because Titleist is coming out with new AP2 irons in late fall. They should be awesome as many tour pros already have them in the bag!
